FRYBREAD RHYMES

carson gardner   MD / Poet  / Lyricist

Frybread rhymes with Mitered Head
and Grateful Dead and Mister Ed,
but those rhymes are trivial--instead
discover rhymes like blankets spread.
Frybread rhymes with lovers' bed,
best friends wed, children bred;
frybread rhymes with family fed
and dreams like eagles overhead.
Frybread rhymes with sacred tread,
the circle dance Mishoomis led,
Nookomis' jingle dress ahead
of all the wounds that time has bled.
Frybread rhymes with chanting said
above the drums that conquer dread,
frybread rhymes with living red-
a robe of courage never shed.
Yes, frybread rhymes with Mitered Head
and Grateful Dead and Mister Ed,
but those rhymes are trivial--instead
consider eagles up above,
remember frybread rhymes with love.
